Why do you support an "unpopular" baseball player?

I'd love to know the reasons fans have in justifying their support of "unpopular" players or players who have singled out by the media. I guess some examples would be Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens, Carlos Zambrano, Randy Jackson, Carlos Delgado, Barry Zito etc. Overall it should be someone in the baseball field who is not seen in an overall positive light by fans due to performance or whatever or the media (if connected to steroids). Detailed answers please! :)
