Why do some AA's think Africans should be grateful because of their struggles?

Great emphasis is put on the word "some". These individuals act like Africans had to do no work whatsoever just because of the civil rights movement. I've even been told this a few times by AA's. I'm sorry, but we didn't become the highest educated group in America based off of the merit of your forefathers alone. Even though it was a very heroic cause. We didn't come here to collect welfare checks, live in section 8 housing, and benefit off of affirmative action. We worked very hard and didn't have childish mindsets that eventually gave us a notable distinction even among other races. So why is it SOME AA's think we should be grateful, as if we don't already work hard enough and on average harder than them?
